This book was specifically designed with busy working adults in mind, with a word bank that includes words like ‘soju’, ‘cutting board’, and ‘daughter-in-law’. (This aside, interested students may also find this a helpful resource.)
Use this with any other material you like. What helps most is to have a small goal, and use this book alongside your favorite Korean shows, movies, creators, learning apps, etc. Having someone more fluent, like a loved one or a tutor, around to support you is also fortunate and valuable, but not required for learning.
This book covers reading and writing the Korean alphabet, Hangeul, and feature handwritten characters, pronunciation tips, short syllable exercises, and over 190 words and short phrases. There is also a post-alphabet bonus chapter on reading words that are pronounced differently from how they are spelled.
Grammar and reading comprehension are NOT covered, and our recommendation is to get a comfortable handle on reading Korean before committing to a grammar book.

Studio Baemi began with the first book my mom and I wrote together, The Korean Alphabet. Our goal is to introduce more opportunities to engage with and enjoy Korean culture, and what better way to start than with learning how to read?
Co-author and curriculum designer Jeongwon Yoon has taught Korean for adult students in non-profit education and employees at various companies in the Bay Area for over a decade. Co-author, book designer and editor Juneyoung Jeong grew up in Utah and California learning Korean at home, and studied Japanese through workbooks and language learning apps.
